The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District will be receiving $50,000 in state funding, secured by State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District), to purchase interactive “SMART Board” equipment for all schools within the district. “SMART Boards” are touch sensitive, computerized blackboards which allow teachers to incorporate the Internet, videos, and manipulate text as part of their lessons. Teachers can also have students actively participate in a lesson by having them use the SMART Boards to search the Internet, write text, or draw diagrams in front of the class. Since the technology is interactive, it enhances learning by keeping students more engaged and involved in the lessons. “This interactive educational technology will greatly benefit both students and teachers in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District. By enabling students to actively participate in lessons, ‘SMART Boards’ make learning more exciting and enjoyable. They are also an important resource for teachers, because they allow them to keep students interested and involved in learning,” said Senator Fuschillo. “On behalf of our students and staff, I want to thank Senator Fuschillo for delivering state funding to the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District for this important technology. The interactive nature of SMART Boards helps students enjoy learning and helps teachers keep their classes focused, engaged, and energized during lessons. We thank Senator Fuschillo again for his continued support,” said Dr. Henry Kiernan, Superintendent of the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District.
